AES-IntelliNet
Announces Enhanced Customer Support Program for NTIA Narrowband
Compliance
Enhanced
Support Program Provides Additional Aid as Compliance Deadlines
Approach
(Peabody,
MA April 9, 2004) AES-IntelliNet
Alarms, a division of AES Corp, announced today an expanded support
program for organizations that need to upgrade and modify wireless
radio alarm based systems to meet NTIA narrowband compliance standards.
The NTIA narrowband compliance standards apply to all products utilizing
radio based wireless transmission for a variety of purposes. Most
of the systems currently in use do not meet narrowband standards
and must be modified. The deadlines for compliance begin as soon
as January 2005.
All
AES-IntelliNet Alarm products are narrowband compliant and serve
primarily the fire and intrusion security market. The new NTIA standards
were enacted to promote the efficient use of federal radio spectrum,
and will take effect as early as January 2005. The standards dictate
a transition of channel bandwidths from 25 kHz to 12.5 kHz (narrowband
assignments).
NTIA
Narrowband Compliance Standards
The NTIA Narrowband Compliance
standards have been instituted in order to better manage the allocation
of frequency spectrum for wireless communications .
Radio equipment will be more
accurate and adjacent channels will not be interfered with. Guidelines
for the transition to narrowband technology are found in Chapter
4 of the NTIA's Manual of Regulations and Procedures for Federal
Radio Frequency Management. The deadline for transitioning to narrowband
radios differs depending on the assigned bandwidth as indicated
below:
• 138 - 150.8 MHz Band: New systems must use the
new 12.5 kHz channel after 1 January 1998; Existing systems must
be converted by 1 January 2008.
• 162 - 174 MHz Band: New systems must use the
new 12.5 kHz channel after 1 January 1995; Existing systems must
be converted by 1 January 2005.
• 406.1 - 420 MHz Band: New systems must use the
new 12.5 kHz channel after 1 January 1995; Existing systems must
be converted by 1 January 2008.
AES-IntelliNet
NTIA Compliance Support Program
AES-IntelliNet offers technical
and product support programs that help bring organizations into
NTIA compliance requirements and support radio alarm monitoring
needs. The AES-IntelliNet support program includes:
• Conducting a site survey of installed transceivers to determine
available options for meeting the NTIA requirements and develop
a timely conversion process.
• Conducting training classes on how to install AES-IntelliNet products
so on-site personnel can complete the required conversions.
• Providing installation certification and service for AES-IntelliNet
products.
• Providing ongoing support for AES-IntelliNet products.
Established
in 1974, AES Corp. is the industry leader delivering high reliability
wireless mesh networks to multiple industries including the fire
alarm and burglary/intrusion market. Wireless mesh networking is
an innovative technology for applications that need to communicate
data over a large geographic area with a high level of reliability
at a low cost of ownership. AES-IntelliNet network users in the
Fire & Burglary/Intrusion Alarm industry have gained significant
revenue, communications and cost advantages while meeting the high
standards of reliability required. AES-IntelliNet Alarm products
