City
of Medford and Advanced AMR Complete Phase One of Energy Management
Monitoring Program
Program
Supports Medford's Efforts to Reduce Energy Costs and Greenhouse
Emissions
(Peabody,
MA.) Advanced AMR, working in partnership with the City of Medford
MA, announced today the completion of phase one of their energy
management program for Medford High School.
The
city of Medford, located near Boston, is one of the oldest cities
in America, founded in 1630. Medford city officials have worked
diligently in recent years to upgrade municipal facilities to achieve
higher standards for energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gases.
An important part of this comprehensive energy management strategy
is addressing energy usage at its high school. As part of the plan
the City of Medford worked with Advanced AMR Technology, a Peabody,
MA., based company to install a series of wireless energy monitoring
solutions throughout the school campus. The high school is a multi
use facility with a full school program, after school programs,
and is used by community groups during nights and weekends.
Kim
Lundgren, Environmental Agent for the City of Medford stated, “A
system like this is very important. Its not enough to know we are
facing high costs. Having the actual energy use data gives us a
much better understanding of our base loads and peak demands. The
information generated by Advanced AMR's Energy Information and Control
System gives us the data we need to evaluate, formulate, and implement
operational and policy changes.”
In
order to provide the City of Medford with the information they needed
to develop a comprehensive energy management strategy, Advanced
AMR installed a series of wireless meter monitors at the school
and monitored real time usage data at 15-minute intervals. The data
was transmitted via the Internet to Advanced AMR's energy management
system where it was collected, collated and analyzed.
Gerry
Mimno, GM for Advanced AMR said, “The completion of Phase One, the
installation of the energy monitoring devices and the collecting
of real time usage data over a number of months is a very important
milestone in Medford's energy management plan”
Utilizing
the data collected, Medford will begin to implement Phase Two of
the program, which is to work the appropriate utilities, community
groups and school administrators to formulate strategies regarding
operational changes at the school itself or policy changes regarding
the various uses the building serves. The real time energy usage
data provided will aid the city as it begins the process of developing
a much more energy efficient profile. Advanced AMR will continue
to monitor the energy usage as a means of providing immediate evaluation
and feedback on the effectiveness of the operational and policy
changes as they are implemented.
Mayor
Michael McGlynn summed up the multi phase program by stating, “In
light of the tight budgets of today and the significant increases
in energy costs we see the innovative energy management solutions
provided by Advanced AMR to be capable of delivering us a 10-20%
reduction in our energy costs”
Advanced
AMR provides a wide variety of innovative energy management solutions
that utilize patented AES-IntelliNet wireless technology to offer
a single wireless system to address the energy monitoring and control
needs of both energy suppliers and energy costumers. The installation
of remote monitors reporting real time energy usage data combined
with the powerful network management and application software analyzing
the incoming data stream yields the most advanced tools available
today for those who need to monitor, manage, and conserve energy
usage.
